5 Month Update

April 26, 2010

Calvin turned 5 months last week or 3 months corrected age. For preemies, I’ve read that we should use corrected age rather than actual age to gauge milestones.

This is what he is able to do now

  • Lifts head up 90 degrees
  • Tracks moving objects

He hasn’t been putting on weight well though. At our last checkup, his weight gain was about 300g/ month though his height increased by 3cm. Recently, his appetite is slightly better than before – slightly seems to be only 3% more than before so that’s probably still too little. I’ve been resorting to separating the foremilk and hindmilk and then siphoning out the fatty parts of the excess milk to make extra creamy milk. Oops he’s awake. Will continue again next time.

Weight-y Issue and Our First Stroller Outing

April 13, 2010

Mini update on myself first: At almost 5 months after I gave birth, I’ve actually lost all the weight I gained during pregnancy…. and more. I’m not sure if I should give credit to the breastfeeding, the lack of sleep or the little 6 kg bub that I’ve been carrying around. I’ve definitely not been careful about what I’m putting in my mouth so diet is definitely not where it has helped. I’ve been downing lots of unhealthy snacks (think Tim Tams, assorted biscuits, Fruit Tips and whatever sweet stuff I can get my hands on) partly coz I’ve nothing better to do sometimes in between waiting for him to wake up and my pumpings. So I was rather surprised when I got on the scale and seemed to have lost 1 kg compared to pre-pregnancy.

Johnny needed some new clothes in a jiffy so we went to our usual haunt at Parkway Parade to shop. We were initially going to Marina Square but decided that would be too adventurous since he might fuss and not want to sit in his stroller for any length of time. Well, the good news was that we had a successful shopping trip 🙂 He stayed in there for the whole of 2 hours and even fell asleep long enough for us to sit down and have Mos Burger. Haha, the little things that delight us.

His Very First Flip!

April 8, 2010

This morning, he did his first flip. Or at least I guess it can be called a flip. Technically, he did go from being on his tummy to his back.

His neck muscle has grown really strong recently, all thanks to the oodles of tummy time I give him to try and tire him out. Previously, he could only hold his head up for a couple of seconds and it’s usually kinda wobbly. A few days back, he started supporting himself on the elbows and now he can see the world around him, he seems really pleased with himself.

So what really happened is that he’d push himself up o his elbows and then slowly topple to the side. Thankfully he’s on the sofa or in the cot so the little thump to his head doesn’t hurt at all. So then when he’s lying horizontally, he’ll slowly roll his lower body over and viola! he’s on his back! It’s kinda slow and turtle like but I’m sure he’ll be a flipping terror soon enough. I definitely cannot let him out of my sight anymore.

Anyway, will try and see if I can figure out how to upload videos.

Edit:  Looks like I have to upload to youtube to upload it. Too lazy to figure it out so here’s a picture of him doing tummy time. Just imagine that he toppled off from this position 😛
