Spring Break

It’s now spring break, so things will be a bit more relaxing around the house. I should make it a point not to be too reliant on J to take care of Calvin though. I have to say that I’m a little jealous of how close Calvin is to his papa even though they don’t spend as much time together. On the other hand, I’m also happy because I know Johnny loves Calvin lots. Plus, he’s obviously the more indulgent parent and they can be more physical together. I certainly am not able to heft and haul the big 12 kg sack of potatoes anymore.

This week, we will try and visit the childcare co-op that we were thinking of enrolling him. Sometimes I worry that Calvin will feel down when he finds that he is not physically as capable as the others. After all, the smallest kid always gets picked last, isn’t it? On the other hand, he may be more motivated to do more when he is interacting with other children. That’s the part that I feel will be lacking if he stays at home since there are no children his age around us ( we are living in a predominantly undergrad area near the university after all. Not exactly baby central)

Ah, holidays are also the time when I can try out new recipes! Yesterday i tried my hand at brownies. I never knew the ingredients are so basic: eggs, flour, butter, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder. It didn’t quite turn out to be what I thought a brownie should be though, it seemed a little more like chocolate cake? But it still tasted yummy with ice cream >.< oops my diet plan is surely failing soon. As expected, since coming to the US, I've regained all the weight that I loss after pregnancy. Obviously my own home cooking suits my tastes well but the biggest killer is probably the fact that I'm at home most of the time and the kitchen is conveniently close by. As long as I get reminded of food, I can't seem to help eating it. When I was working, I never had the urge to eat because it seems strange to do it at work (except when I was pregnant and I kept feeling hungry. Even then, I ate fruits). Or it could be the overabundance of cheap chocolates that I picked up recently, tempting me to more than just a small nibble every day. Excuses aside, I'll just have to try harder to maintain my current weight.
